A Surprising Number Of Americans Can’t Name A Single Cryptocurrency: Benzinga Survey
Despite the boost in the cryptocurrency sector in 2021 and many coins like Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) and Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) hitting all-time highs, some Americans are still highly unfamiliar with the sector.
What Happened: The 2021 year could go down as one of the biggest in the cryptocurrency sector with a surge in valuations. Many people invested in cryptocurrencies for the first time and the sector saw major corporations add Bitcoin to their balance sheets.
Turning to 2022 and the sector faced several setbacks with the collapse of Celsius and the recent bankruptcy of FTX.
Benzinga recently polled people to find out how many Americans are familiar with cryptocurrency and if there could be an opportunity for more people to join the space.

Here’s a look at what a new Benzinga survey reveals about the cryptocurrency market.
The Poll Results: Benzinga polled 1,000 Americans to find out how many people have heard of cryptocurrencies.
The question asked was: “How familiar are you with cryptocurrencies?”
The results of the poll were:
- I have never heard of them: 7.9%
- I have heard of them, but don’t know what they are: 23.2%
- I know what they are, but that’s about it: 27.4%
- I know something about them, but am not an expert: 19.6%
- I am fairly knowledgeable about them: 13.5%
- I know more about them than most people: 8.4%
The results of the poll showed many Americans still don’t have much knowledge or information on the cryptocurrency sector. Surprisingly enough, 7.9% of the people polled have never heard of cryptocurrencies before, which comes as the media coverage of the sector increased in 2021 and 2022.
Only 21.9% of those polled said they were fairly knowledgeable or better when it came to the cryptocurrency sector. Another 19.6% said they knew something about the sector, but didn’t consider themselves an expert.
